I’m going off script again because my I’m not very functional today, and a recent conversation with a friend brought the topic to mind. My body’s responses to most stressors: nausea and muscle aches. The following are some goodies that help me out.
- Peppermint tea
- Ginger: Not ginger ale, because of the high sugar and carbonation. I’m talking about ginger tea, crystallized, or hard candies (I like Gin Gins brand). This stuff is a lifesaver!
- Zofran and Phenergan: Pharmaceutical solutions for the absolute worst days. Downside of Phenergan: it makes you drowsy. Downside of Zofran: insanely expensive , so limited quantities are covered by insurance companies. Specialists can prescribe these, but so can local family doctors.
- Peanut butter: On toast with honey, in a PBJ sandwich, or just a nice little spoonful when you can.
- Electrolyte water: It’s got some of the good stuff you’d find in sports drinks, but none of the sugar and other garbage. Gatorade-type drinks typically make my stomach feel worse, so I drink electrolyte water if I am getting dehydrated. Various brands are available at health food stores and the sports drink sections at some grocery stores.
Now next time the thought of food makes you cringe, you have some new tricks to try!
